I have decided on a permanent place for my coop and run but before I can finally go out and get my chickens I need to sort out the run floor. I've already decided on using some weed control membrane but struggling to find something suitable to put on top, that can be ordered on-line and at a fairly cheap price. Could I use PVC coated galvanised wire netting or these grass protectors: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plastic-Paving-Driveway-Protector-Drainage/dp/604042754X/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1402830732&sr=8-15&keywords=turf+protector#productDetails

Any help would be appreciated :)

I started out with grass, that lasted not very long! In this garden I have the eglu and run on the patio in Winter but in Summer it is just on black membrane from the garden centre which I can hose down. I just throw some hay on and they are happy. They do FR for an hour in the morning though and when I get home from work, plus all weekend.

Hi, my permanent run has plastic pallets for a base, topped with galvanised wire so nothing can dig in. Then we have a very heavy duty porous membrane (not the black plastic ones as they shred), it was expensive but is used by builders under drives etc and the girls haven't shredded it at all. On top of that is a deep layer of hardwood chippings. It's been a long slog this year to get it right but it means that any rain that does get in can drain away.
