LolaLayla
Just thought I would share this. My dog started licking her back paw between the pads. I had a good look at it under my craft magnifier and there was nothing there. It wasn't hot or swollen so I bathed it and hoped that would be the end of it. However she kept licking and after a short while the hair had gone and it was leaking. I felt a trip to the vets was needed but as there was nothing to see she would possibly have ended up with injections etc which may have been costly and unnecessary. However when I was as her training class the teacher suggested Thornit. I believe it is usually for ears but she said it was good for itchy paws too. What a miracle cure She stopped licking it and it is totally dry now. Just wanted to share this as it seems to be a very simple solution I assume that the original problem was possibly sand (as we go on a lot of beach walks) or similar which started an itch that she turned into a bigger problem. The Dogmother
Thornit powder is a brilliant old working dog remedy for anything that itches, including ears - my Grandpa used it in the spaniels' ears when they got harvest mites in them. A spot of menthol also helps to stop compulsive licking.

The Dogmother
Thornits will stop any sort of itching, and is mildly repellent to dogs, they really hate menthol though - Vaporub is fine.... dot it around the area and only use a very little. One of mine is a compulsive licker, and will turn any cut or graze into a large open wound, which doesn't heal or results in a granuloma There are a lot of very good, old remedies.... Camrosa horse ointment is great for healing scabbed over wounds, and promoting hair regrowth Bob Grass skin cure ointment is excellent for healing Fieldsman's ointment from my friend Jim Greenwood is great fro drawing out infected wounds or bites.
