Chickabee
I want to let mum and 2 week old chicks out to free range, but I'm scared the chicks will run away and I won't catch them. I've lots of bushes to hide in. Mum is desperate to come out , but will she show them the way back. I know I'm probably being a bit silly, but I don't want to ruin anything now. I will stay in garden and put dogs away
daxigirl
They'll stay with her. Just keep an eye on them.
sparkysmum
Hi, yes do let them out or at least create a large enclosure for them. Its such a lovely time when they follow mum about. I lost hours and hours every day watching my mummy pekin and her mixed chicks tootle about in the garden. Mummy pekin was such a good mum that after a few weeks I let them all in the garden together. Amzingly not a single hen gave the chicks even the teensiest peck. Makes me broody just thinking about it!
sjp
they don't go far the first few times they FR partly mom won't let them and partly because they don't have the confidence I've got 4-4 week old chicks with a first time broody that have been FR since they were 2 or 3 days old for the first week they never went more than a few inches from mom now they run and jump all over the place it's one of the best thing about keeping chickens watching chicks free ranging with a broody that lets them have space to play
