mullethunter
Bernadette started laying her lovely tiny eggs on the 13th September. She laid roughly 2 eggs every 3 days until Monday. Since then - nothing! Do you think she's had enough already? I don't really mind - I didn't get the Pekins for the eggs (they're difficult to bake with as they're so small but they are very cute) but that seems like a very short laying period
jeshen
I've found that our pekins tend to stop around now, Mullethunter, (some in September) and tend to start again around Valentines Day, when there's sufficient light. So it's not too bad a season. Except that some of them spend most of the year being broody!
chuckmum6
That sounds about right for pekin's! Mine spend most of the summer being broody, then stop altogether around Sept/Oct, I count myself lucky if a get a dozen eggs from them in a year! I have just cleaned the coops out and it was full of feathers, so it looks like Lucky has gone straight from being broody into a moult! Egg production is definitely slowing down, I am get the odd egg most days and none on some, not too impressed considering their are 17 girls (5 are POL so not in lay yet)! mullethunter
Bernie laid an egg today She's obviously not totally shut down for winter yet.
mullethunter
Laid again today so perhaps back to 'normal'. She's had really runny poo for a good few days - could she have paused laying because she wasn't feeling very well?
