auntielizzie
Today I got home to discover that Betsy had laid her first egg of the year So that's both girls laying again. Bessie is laying an egg alternate days; I wonder what Betsy will do! The great egg drought is over I think I did quite well; they stopped laying in October and I managed to get by with only buying half a dozen eggs at Christmas (and didn't I hate having to buy them). I love the feeling it gives you when you collect your own eggs from your garden
Valkyrie
Yes same here - we had 2 this week. Whoohoo! Same bird - think it's the orpie, but the marans have been doing their leg crossed arrr arr arrrrrr noises. The orpie kept things to herself somewhat! mullethunter
Egg! Egg! Egg! First one since November I think. Definitely a Wyandotte and judging by the torpedo shape I'd say probably Amy. Sorry luvachicken
Valkyrie
And another - definitely the orpie. She decided not to have breakfast although ran up for it, turned around and whined all the way down the garden. I gave her some treats before she went up the ramp to keep her going for half an hour! mullethunter
A second egg today! Shape suggested Penny this time. They have both got very red faces now so I'd expect them both to be laying. Anyone know when I can expect the Pekins to start? The bullying's got a little worse from the Wyandottes lately (as their hormones gear up for egg production In guess), and Bernadette certainly seemed to handle it better when she was in lay too. Also, Shelley who's now about 10 months old hasn't laid at all yet. Do you think she will or do you sometimes get a hen who never does? Valkyrie
We have another girl laying today. Lovely choccy one to go with the fudgey ones. So that's our new girls up and running. Still the old'uns to go. I don't know if the pekin will lay any time soon, although last year she did really well for a 6 year old. The maran will probably lay as she's always been good. Not sure about her buff Sussex "sister" who showed signs of irregular laying last year. It was March before the old'uns started laying here. mullethunter
Penny laid again today so it looks like she's back in action Amy stood in the Eglu door shouting the whole time with the Pekins sitting on the perch just outside the a Eglu door.
