soapdragon
Just wondering if anyone on the forum is into Living History and, if so, what period? We used to do 17th cent LH before we had the boys but are now looking for a much smaller, more historically accurate group. I quite fancy Norman/Middle Ages - our tent would be fine for that - but we are planning on going to the big LH market in Warwickshire at the end of the month. The Dogmother
That market sounds interesting Soapy - what's it all about, and where is it?
bluekarin
I believe it may be this http://www.nlhf.co.uk/about/ I don't do this myself, but sister in law, her hubby and their two girls do medieval events. They go to Kentwell and various other places and live as the people would have done back then. They do demonstrations of various crafts. My brother in law makes bagpipes for a living, and demonstrates that there. Obviously not to the same standard as the ones he makes for commissions. The Dogmother
Sounds interesting, and the Bruntingthorpe one isn't too far away. Let me know if you're going, and when, Soapy, and I'll try to get there.
soapdragon
We are planning on going on the Saturday morning (28th Feb) to get there just after opening time so around 10/30ish! The market used to be held at Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre Oxford so only about 15 mins form us and we went every Spring/Autumn but have only been to this 'new' venue once and it was much bigger and better. It gets very crowded and they have lots of continental re enactors too! We don't plan to buy...just hopefully find a new group but its very easy to get tempted and just fascinating if you have an interest in history. DM....I will PM you nearer the time to see if you are still able to go (its the Ryton on Dunsmore one; stupidly I have typed this up without checking the linky that bluekarin kindly posted but I think thats pretty close to Banbury...just a bit cross country?) Edit; Yep, have clicked on the linky then you need to click home..top lh corner which gives you the 28 Feb/1 Mar details! Thanks, bluekarin! The Dogmother
Ah, yes. Ryton on Dunsmore is only about 20 mins away from me. At the moment I am pencilled in to work that day though let me see how it goes; I might not be needed.
