Switching energy suppliers

Recommended Posts

Switched once, many years ago and it was painless. Had both fixed and variable rates, am now on fixed when the prices dropped  I think I prefer fixed. The supplier I'm with now lets you switch products with no penalty. However, IMHO in the long run it evens out and my theory is we all end up paying the same, unless you are prepared to keep switching suppliers :? Just my opinion, mind  I've now changed supplier as I had to register with the incumbent supplier when I moved house, I won't bother switching again, just concentrating on being more energy efficient now.

I believe the only way to save money on energy, as you know, is to use less :)

To some extent yes I agree Charlottechicken - using less energy overall is the best solution. However I switched last year using the MSE club, and without changing my already thrifty ways I'm paying £20 less per month. Most people can't be bothered to change but it really was entirely painless.

I went through hell with NPower when I changed to British Gas, this was 14 years ago though, so things may have improved. British Gas allow us to change tariff online so we are always swapping and changing to the new best rate for us.

We are sticking with them though, as it makes life easier with the solar panels and claiming our feed in tariff from them every quarter.

i am a regular switcher. i use Uswitch service so painless. Can I suggest that you get your recent bill and put the info in uswitch. It will tell you how much you can save with another company - you then have a choice of whether to go ahead or not. Please dont go to Scottish power - terrible service. I abandoned my switch to them as they were SOOOO awful. Every other time I have done it it has been very very easy. You will be surprised how much you can save.
