Chicken bald back

Ok so Henrietta is 3 or 4 and stopped laying last summer when her buddies passed away, so not really expecting her to lay again to be honest (Pekin Bantam).

However I bought Snowy and Leia last October as Point of lay. Snowy started laying in February however Leia is yet to lay a single egg! Should I be concerned by this? They are both the same age and are both Light Sussex Bantams.

Assuming that she's the same age as the other newbie, she really ought to be laying by now. It's unusual to get a barren bird.

 

Make sure they eat only layers pellets, and worm them with Flubenvet, and see if that makes a difference.

They're on layers mash as Henrietta won't eat pellets!

 

They get corn in the evening and mealworms in a ball as a treat.. Will try worming again

Try keeping the treats to a minimum.

 

Do you keep them in the run 24/7 when you're worming?

Came home from a long weekend and Skye - the 7 year old had laid the first of the year. She laid another yesterday. I'm well impressed! And the randy little thing keeps presenting herself to me!

I have a pekin, that's around 9 years old now, and she graces me with a couple of eggs a year. Always been more of a broody than a layer, but tiny and healthy.

9 is blooming good! Something endearing about pekins. Tiny, chatty and boy do they announce!

They stay in their run full time, we haven't completely sealed in the garden yet so don't want to loose them through holes in the fence!

 

Will cut back on treats and worm them this week!
