Thumbcat
I got my chickens on Saturday. They were fine with eating but were avoiding the glug and because the weather was so warm I put a small pot of water in the run for them, which they've been drinking from ever since. Today it was next to the glug but they still chose to drink from it (and I have to keep topping it up as it's only little). If I take it away altogether tomorrow will they drink from the glug? I don't want them to get dehydrated.
Chickabee
I should think so. Have you put anything in the water, this could have put them off. If not, just take away the other drinker
Lewis
If the glug is there they won't go thirsty
Beantree
I think they just didn't recognise the glug as a drinker Thumbcat, because they were used to a bowl on the floor. Now they are used to their surroundings they should find the water, but you were right to watch them carefully to spot if they are feeding and drinking and respond accordingly. We have just had a problem with a new cockerel who recognised the green floor standing drinker, but when we moved him to his new coop he didn't see the drinking bowl on the log so we had to bring the drinker back out for him. Is the drinker right next to the feeder, because that will help them to spot it?
Thumbcat
Thanks for the replies. I put the glug in this morning and filled it up with the hose while they were watching and I've seen them all having a drink from it now. I wonder what they'll worry me with next
