Cat tails
Don't know what she did yesterday, but she came in limping badly. She won't really put her right front leg down. Have felt her joints and can't really feel anything major wrong. Going to call a vet when they open en see if I can make a visit this afternoon. Silly cat does want to play and uses that leg when playing. Also caught a moth this morning, but is very reluctant to put any weight on... Olly
I had this last week with my friend's cat, I was feeding them while she was away. I found one curled on the landing looking very sorry for himself, and unable to put any weight on one paw. After checking he wasn't bleeding, the joint was in place etc I rang her and we agreed to leave him overnight and see how he was. Next morning he was still limping but using the paw a little more. I went back in the evening to feed them and he greeted me by falling off the back of the sofa and doing an acrobatic act to recover! Using both front paws, needless to say. Sometimes it's just a sprain or a bit bruised - if Ipoes still feels like playing and is otherwise in good spirits, I would probably wait and see, they can recover quite fast. Cat tails
True enough, but I just made an appointment with a vet to be sure. It is very sore and she doesn't let me touch it. Lying down on it is very awkward too.
Cat tails
Went to the vet (very nice man! Decided this is my new guy to go to for shots etc) He gave her the once over. Was amazed at her overal shape/form. (iPoes doesn't have the regular cat shape and is really small and has crooked legs ) Couldn't find any breaks and tried to get a pain reaction from her, but iPoes is way too nice and polite to say something. According to the vet she is one tough cookie! Let her walk around a bit and decided she must have sprained her elbow. Just to aid recovery and prevent any swelling or infection, she is got anti-inflammatorie injection. All in all - €51 and still one sore elbow. Olly
Ouch - still at least you're reassured it's nothing worse. Glad to hear she's ok.
Cat tails
Thanks Olly! I also figured that so far iPoes hasn't cost me too much money in unforeseen vet costs. She has been suprisingly low maintenance.
mullethunter
You've probably checked her over for this already, but could she have been stung?
Cat tails
Vet said it even could be a cat bite, but those can be near invisible too. No swelling so far anywhere, but will definitely keep an eye on it. After much tugging and prodding at her leg, he did notice she would freeze up her elbow joint when he would move it suddenly. So that's the thinks it's a sprain. We'll see... It needs to improve over the coming days and else it's back to the nice man.
dancing cloud
Poor iPoes but at least she has a nice vet. How is she this morning? As well as missing her upper lip, my Cleo was an unusual shape with very bowed legs and a round rib cage. Vets always thought she was fat, as she too was a small cat over all, till they were invited to feel her ribs and discovered it actually was just her shape. All made different, bless them
Cat tails
Thanks for asking Dancing Cloud. Limping a lot less this morning! Still hobbles around, but seems more comfortable. Cleo sounds a little like iPoes. She too has a rather round ribcage. Also very small ears. I'm always amazed by the bat resemblance of other cats! She can't jump properly or climb, which makes keeping her in the garden very easy. She is one of the sweetests cats I've ever met. Never bites, never scratches. Cat tails
She's been in boarding for three weeks and thought she got rid of her limp. Untill she tried to chase Red of and came back with a slight limp again... Three weeks of being confined in a small area didn't do the trick. Vet couldn't find anything. I decided it must be her age and her wonky build. She doesn't seem bothered by it. Not hot, swollen or painful. So I'll leave it at that. dancing cloud
Because of her auto-immune and general wonkiness, Cleo became arthritic and a homeopathic remedy ARR (arnica, rhus tox and ruta) helped her a lot.You can probably get it where you are and I can pass on details for a company here if you'd like them. Eldest dog Kia was also given this remedy when she seemed lethargic and uncomfortable, and now dances and skips and laughs. They're now known as cheeky pills in our house ! Cat tails
Luckily she not uncomfortable (yet?). She happily hobbles aound, chases after Red and does all her usual stuff. When she becomes less mobile, I'll look into some aid. She is hopeless with pills. For my previous cat I got a liquid painkiller from the vet which worked absolute miracles and turned a very immobile old lady back into a young bouncing kitten. dancing cloud
These are small pills and I used to crush them and stir them into Cleo's food. She was a greedy little thing, so always ate it all. Kia just takes them, as she thinks they're treats Liking the sound of that liquid painkiller - can we all have a bit ?
Cat tails
Oh yes... The liquid painkiller... Wonderful stuff! I think in the end Amy (my old cat) was slightly addicted... She couldn't wait to gobble up the stuff. Silly little iPoes only eats dry food, so stuffing it in wet food or even piece of sausage is no option. The daft lady doesn't understand real food.
