Hi All

Looking for some weatherproofing advice. Just got my omlet WIR up and running with a tarpaulin cover over the top. Today we had rain, then rain & later more rain.....:roll:

The rain just runs off the cover & splashes into the run soaking the bedding all round the edges!

So, what innovative ideas have you come up with to minimise this?

My WIR is Sat against an old brick wall at the back & the end of the garage, also brick. So a bit concerned about reduced ventilation if I cover too much of the sides.

we use a very large 6m x 2m clear tarpaulin that goes completely over our (Omlet) WIR's roof and down two sides (+ another square one that covers the back). A good tip is to use tent pegs in the eyelets they have around the edges to pull the bottom edge out at the bottom - a bit like a tent, with guy ropes if you can work out what I mean? That way the rain just runs down the sides and off the bottom well away from the actual sides of the WIR and so the ground around the WIR is a bit covered as well. In the winter and/or when heavy rain is forecast we keep the sides down but in the summer/warm spells we just roll the sides up and use bungees to keep them up so that air can circulate freely. We find tarpaulins give a lot of flexibility.

Thanks Lunakiw1, I understand what you're describing & it's probably the best short term solution for me, however I think next spring I might have an attempt at putting some independent structure over the top a bit like yours Ain't "Ooops, word censored!"ody here.

I like the idea of collecting the rainwater via guttering rather than letting it soak into the ground around the run.

Thanks for the advice, always worth seeing what's been achieved

Ain't "Ooops, word censored!"ody here, It did make wonder initially but then I got to thinking, mayhap something similar to a wooden gazebo like frame with a corrugated roof would actually work? Doesn't actually have to sit on the WIR as such just tied into the brick walls...:anxious:
