chickchock
Hi all, this is probably a really daft question! We went away last weekend and my FIL came morning and night to feed the girls, let them out into the run and close the eglu door at dusk. All fine, no problems. The things is now they have started laying. So next time they will have laid an egg in between his two visits but then it will still be there when they go to bed (I can't really ask him to make 3 trips a day). So my question is, what will happen if the chickens go to bed and the eggs are still there? Will they just leave them, squash them, sit on them?? Obviously he can collect the previous days eggs the next morning, but I can't see a way around there being eggs in the nesting box when they go to bed. Am I inventing a problem that isn't really a problem or do I need to arrange for the eggs to be collected? Thanks in advance!
sjp
Am I inventing a problem that isn't really a problem yes he'll collect them in the morning and again when he comes in the evening/afternoon that's not a problem it's what we all do when we're out at work all day. most of my little monsters are mid morning layers anyway so the eggs only get collected about tea time or the next morning if it's raining heavy like yesterday you might get the odd dirty one but that can happen even if you collect them 3 times a day like wise you might get the odd broken one but that'll be a thin shelled one which could get broken any way

Cat tails
Mine have the habit to want to 'brood' on them at night. But technically not a problem.

Olly
I've left eggs for a weekend sometimes, they can get dirty (one of mine sleeps in the nestbox) but that's all.
