Sailing/flotilla holidays.... Any experience?

Recommended Posts

We did one a few years ago, I'd love to do another. Neilsson flotilla were great.

Everyone changed and dressed nicely to go to dinner. I wished I'd taken twice as many clothes

If you haven't sailed before do a rya crew course as minimum, you need to be competent as you'll be doing the hard work as you oh will be skipper. Suggests he does a refresher w/e course if he hasn't sailed in a while.

Thanks Willow, that's the sort of thing i wanted to know.

Looking at various sites, some look to eat onboard, and others eat in port. I am guessing that there wouldn't be room for much luggage, or clothes, but am hoping that there is a half decent shower and somewhere to get out of the sun at midday. At the moment, I think it's just an idea, and he hasn't got further down the line than that.

Totally second the advice to do an RYA course which will allow you to get the maximum enjoyment whilst keeping safe and confident that you know what you are doing.....PIL did a number of these hols and had a great time but were also very experienced dingy sailors tho they did find that the Thames differs slightly to the Greek Islands (surprising, that, isn't it  )

On one memorable flotilla hol they had a New Zealand skipper with a very strong accent who was keen on keeping things shipshape and a great advocate of deck scrubbing (say it with a NZ accent!) Caused much hilarity until they explained it to him
