KeymerKim
Hi - Not sure this is the right place for this post but here goes.... I've just found a wood pigeon flapping around in my vege patch - luckily on the other side of the chicken wire to my cat who wondered why she couldn't get at it! I've put it in a box with straw and put some corn and water on the floor next to it and it's in the garage looking very sorry for itself. I couldn't see any obvious wounds, but didn't want to check it too much in case of stressing it even more. My vets are now closed and I don't know of any wildlife centres near to me (West Sussex - nr Burgess Hill) and don't want to contact the RSPCA because they won't do anything. I'll leave it for this evening and check again in the morning, but I wondered if anybody knew of a number I could contact in this area, or if there was anything else I could do for it. I'm also a little concerned about any transmittable diseases that could be passed to my girls from the pigeon, but I suppose the pigeons are in the area anyway and if anything nasty could be passed on, it would be anyway. I'll give an update in the morning, but in the meantime, if anyone could offer some advice, I'd be very grateful. KeymerKim x
xChicken04x
Thats strange, i just found a little finch on the floor with my 2 kitties looking rather guilty, theres not much you can do, we have done the same as you but the poor thing has blood coming out of its beak and is just about breathing. I dont think its going to last much longer. I think you are doing all you can, we rescued a wood pigeon a few years ago and just done what you have. But they love cooked rice so if its not eating then try it with that. good luck xx
The Dogmother
All you can do is keep it quiet and warm and see how it is in the morning Kim. Keep it away from your girls though. Good luck! We found a pigeon last year, it was out in the street being tracked by a cat, which had obviously already had one go at it. We put it in a box in the shed and took it to the vet in the morning. They phoned us later in the day to tell us that it was alright and recuperating prior to being released.
Ladylucan
I fished a dead baby pigeon out of my pond two days ago, . really unsure how it ended up in there.
The Dogmother
Poor thing. My folks have big windows at the back of their house, which reflect the garden, poor wood pigeons are always flying into them. Usually they shake themselves and fly off, occasionally they flop around with broken necks and have to be despatched. I hate those windows with a vengeance! KeymerKim
Update on Pigeon.. Was livelier this morning, but still not well so Barrie took it to the vet who promised to do what they can with it. I will give them a ring this afternoon to find out more. Not alot else we could have done - I hate it when animals are hurt, but I couldn't bring myself to put it out of its misery - especially, when I don't know if they might survive. The vet is very nice and I know they will do what is best. Thanks for all the comments. I know you all care as much as I do and that is a great comfort. Have a good weekend all.
