tonywig
We are now down to just a single chicken. About 5-6 weeks ago she decided to moult (no idea why she should do this at coldest time of year but she did). She stopped laying. I gather that this is normal. Moult all over now but she has not started laying yet. Any advice gratefully received.
Cat tails
Wouldn't worry, as it is still short days and long nights. How old is she and is she a hybrid or pure breed?
tonywig
Thanks She's an Omlet Gingernut Ranger and is about three and a half years old. Up until moult she laid 5-6 a week.
mullethunter
That's getting on a bit for a hybrid. I expect she's just taking her time to get over her moult and will start again once the days lengthen.

I've had 4 of my older girls start laying in the last 3 weeks one today plus about 4 pullets in the last month so far since Friday I've had 16 eggs best winter laying I've had in 6 -7 years. 2 hens are only laying once a week as well this winter is a lot brighter than it should be through it was still light here just after 4:30pm
