Chickabee

Possible suffocation

Recommended Posts

I lost one of my bantams last night. Found her in the nesting box. She looked perfectly healthy. Weight still fine, pink cheeks, no mites or lice and just been wormed. I have noticed that one of my brahmas has taken to roosting on top of the others, in fact I found her on top of another hen in the nest box today. Neither was laying, one is broody. Has anyone had this behaviour before? They're not overcrowded

It's a possibility Chickabee? If she had so much weight on her she couldn't breath; was unable to expand her abdominal air sacks to then force air through her lungs. I know this can happen if a chicken is held too firmly.

You need to stop them roosting in the nest box somehow I think.
