Jules.
I would like to plant some daffodils aruond the tree which is in the chickens netted area, but wonderd if 1 Will the chooks eat them before they even get a chance to flower? 2 Are they poisonous to chickens? I have also got some tulip & snowdrop bulbs to plant, but i don't think these will be going in the chicknens part of the garden.
Mrs Frugal
They may dig up the bulbs, Jules. We've got lots of daffodils etc in the garden and the hens have had the odd nibble of the leaves etc but are still here to tell the tale! The biggest danger is from them and their over exuberant scratching! They'll uproot the bulbs if you're not careful.
Jules.
I didn't think of them digging up the bulbs
susiepoos
I heard somewhere that daffodils can be harmful to chickens - I'll have to see if I can find the info on that.
Mrs Frugal
If they really pig out on them, yes, they are toxic but hens seem to know what's good and what's not. I've seen mine fighting over a daffodil leaf and survive after scoffing it so the other hen couldn't get it but I think greater quantities would be dangerous.
