Footie thread is here now...

Gallas is a captain of the Top Of The League Premier League Football Team. To throw a strop because one of your teammates has given away a very soft penalty in the last minute of the game is not (in my opinion) Captain-like behaviour. :?

The tackle is quite awful. It was studs up and late. "Ooops, word censored!"ne also said it was very unlike Taylor to do a tackle like that.

I can completly understand why Gallas did what he did and I sympathise with him. Did you see the stud marks on the ad board! Clichy has given Man Utd a chance they shouldn't have, Gallas wants to win the title so much and he knows how severe a blow the madness is.

I've just seen on a website (forum) somebody said it was a harsh red! It really does sound like Eduardo's career is over. :( Best finisher in the league, if not the world.

On a funnier note, Aliadiere has been sent off for hitting Mascherano.

Shocking tackle on Eduardo having just seen it on MOTD - his leg breaks like a matchstick - studs up and dangerous. Having said that it obviously wasn't meant to cause him to break his leg i am sure, and though it was stupid and the red card deserved i don't believe Taylor is a specially dirty player.

As for the rest of the game - bad decisions by the ref according to Hansen and i agree. Should not have been a free kick that led to their 1st goal, we should have had a penalty Adebayors shorts were clearly pulled in the area and though Clichys defending was diabolical he did get the ball and not the player - shouldn't have been a penalty - and in the 94th minute...

Not sure what to make of Gallas - he was a bit petulant i'll admit - but it shows how much he cares about the cause and i'll give him the benefit of the doubt this time as the circumstances were difficult and emotional with Eduardo's injury.

All in all, we should have beaten them - even with the refs awful decision - we had something like 25 chances on goal and i am gutted to lose the 2 points - Man U are catching up and i don't think we will win the league now. I don't think our youngsters have the mental strength or experience that Man. Utd have. Its been a bad week to be a gooner... :(

I havent seen the injury (and i dont want to) but it sounds horrific. Poor bloke i reckon his career is over :( it must have been awful for the players on the pitch to witness also.

Cant believe Gallas  fancing caving in like that at the end daft eh? The very last thing you want to show the chasing pack is that you are cracking under the pressure (which he clearly is) as I've just watched man'ure on MOTD and they were amazing.

Couldn't bring myself to watch Man.U Chelsea - to depressing and as for Gallas - reckon you're still bitter you have Cashley and not him! Gallas and "Ooops, word censored!"nal will still finish higher then Cashley and Chelsea!(i hope!)

The injury was horrible - MOTD actually showed it in slow mo and Mike and i both winced - it looked horrible and must have been soooo painful.

You know what helen, we cant stand Gallas in our house now (suppose you are the same with cashley :D ) he's got really arrogant (he was so quiet and timid at Chelsea) but he seems to have an arrogance about him now AND a stupid haircut!!

I couldnt watch anything to do with the tackle (makes my legs go funny just thinking about it :? ) but how terrible for the young lad.

I've said all along I dont think "Ooops, word censored!"nal will win the league, Man'ure are too strong and I said last week "Ooops, word censored!"ne has put all his eggs in one basket and you could end up with nothing this season.

I am annoyed with his "Taylor should never play football again" comment. Any other time a "Ooops, word censored!"nal player makes a dirty tackle he never see's it. there were several incidents in the Man U game that were dirty and the John Terry broken foot. Im not sticking up for the brum player in anyway, it was dirty - he deserved the red, but to say something like that is just silly!!:wink:

"Ooops, word censored!"ne Wenger did release a statement to apologise saying it was said in the heat of the moment and he regretted it which i think was very good of him - and he also (as Lisa pointed out) said Taylor was not normally a dirty player.

Have seen pictures of the leg injury (can send you a link if you like Chelse?! ) and it IS horrible - Eduardo was gonna be such a good player for us to - hope he gets better soon and i hope RVP hurries up coming back too, cos Bendtner and Adebayor up front would not be great - I don't really rate Bendtner anymore - he would be a good player at somewhere like Villa or Bolton  but isn't quality enough to make it at "Ooops, word censored!"nal. (Hope i eat those words!)

And yes Gallas does have a silly hair cut but he's no where NEAR as much of a muppet as Cashley!

I didnt hear about the press release, good on him - I suppose he was angry/shocked and just blurted it out.

I dont want to see the injury, I can remember years ago when Robbie Di Matteo broke his leg whilst running and you could quite clearly see the bend in the leg (ouch) but todays injury sounds much much worse, :? you never know though, with good physio etc he might recover but Alan smith was never the same was he?

Cashley - what more can I say hes an idiot off the field aswell eh?!

what is wrong with RVP?

RVP has a thigh problem at the moment - reckon they need me and you on the physio massage team Chelse!

Its been one thing after another with RVP injury wise but i think he is close to coming back soon...

Gary Lewin is a very good physio so if he can't sort Eduardo out after injury his career is over :( Bet poor old Taylors feeling miserable tonight :?

Yes I have heeling hands !!! Give 'em a ring - go on !

It probably will have affected Taylor big time, pratically ruining a young talents career isnt exactly going to sit well is it? :? Had he drunk too much Vimto before the match or summat cos it was only 2 or 3 minutes in wasnt it?

I think there's probably something in what AW said about 'to stop "Ooops, word censored!"nal you have to kick "Ooops, word censored!"nal' - I think a lot of teams, especially the s"Ooops, word censored!"pier relegation-candidate sides like Birmingham, still think that they have the chance to take points off "Ooops, word censored!"nal by getting stuck in from the off, and so McLeish had probably told them to go at them hard - it's just such a tragedy that Taylor mistimed a hard challenge and Eduardo ended up as he did.

They're likening it to the David Busst injury (Coventry v Man U) back in 1991, which I vaguely remember. Apparently in that game, it took 15 minutes to clear the blood from the pitch, Schmeichel vomited after seeing the injury and several players had to have counselling after. That was effectively career-ending, although I think he remained on Coventry's books until 1996 (I looked it up on wikipedia! 8) )

Given what they witnessed, I think it was a remarkable achievement by both sets of players to play on, especially the "Ooops, word censored!"nal players given that Eduardo is their teammate, and with that in mind, I think that to draw is an unbelievable result, even though, as Helen says, we deserved to win. I also think that the wheels will come off now though and that we'll end up without a trophy this season. But they've done remarkably well, given that they were written off at the start of the season, and I think 2009 will see us win some silverware. Hopefully Eduardo will be a part of that side.

I don't.. I don't believe for a moment that sides set out to kick "Ooops, word censored!"nal..

I DO believe that sides understand that it is in their interests to close down "Ooops, word censored!"nal - and that it is a tactic that often works..

I don't see why Wenger should have the right to dictate to other teams that they should sit back and allow "Ooops, word censored!"nal to play a free-flowing passing game, giving them the space to lah-di-dah the ball from box to box and into the net...

(yes - lah-di-dah is a new verb I invented to describe "Ooops, word censored!"nal's style... )

as for the injury... Sane "Ooops, word censored!"nal voices (like Tom's) have seen that it was an accident - he did not fly through the air with a 2-footed studs-up lunge, it was a clumsy, mis-timed challenge, the like of which we see 100 every week.

last week - Eboue's 2-footed flying stud's-up challenge could easily have inflicted precisely the same injury on his "victim" - and his was far rasher...

anyway... every best wish to Ed Wardo, and that "Ooops, word censored!"nal will look after him during what will be a long recuperation...

Phil

(as for Gallas.... hmmmmmmmmm..... he appears to be losing it - he was hardly "sane" against ManUre last week either....)

No, but I think they set out to try and rough "Ooops, word censored!"nal up a bit by committing themselves 100% to 50/50 challenges. An example of a team setting out to kick somebody would be Gallas' little clip of Nani's heels last week. An example of a side going out to rough another side up is what Birmingham did yesterday, and unfortunately, it resulted in an awful injury. I didn't see the highlights of the game on MOTD as I was out so can't really comment on anything that I saw, but I was listening at the time on the radio and it sounded as though there were several hard challenges going in from Birmingham players, even after Eduardo's injury. I don't think teams play dirty against "Ooops, word censored!"nal per se (although certain players are always going to take instructions too far) but I do think that a lot of sides are instructed to go out and play an obviously physical game.

I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with that as such, or that teams should just sit back and let "Ooops, word censored!"nal play, but sending a side out with those instructions is risky in that someone may go over the top, or simply get it wrong a la Taylor, and as a result, severe injuries are inevitable.

(Disclaimer: I don't in any way condone Eboue's red-card tackle, Gallas' kick on Nani or the subsequent, reckless challenges that were flying in after his ball-juggling. Although I believe that Nani was intentionally being antagonistic last week, and that most sides would have responded in the way that "Ooops, word censored!"nal did, it was still embarrassing to see. If they'd connected and done damage with any of those tackles, then they would have got lengthy bans, and I would have been in full support of that.)

I think it is Chelsea's turn to go AWOL!:lol:

Cashley was dropped aswell, at least if he had stayed at "Ooops, word censored!"nal he would have been in contention for some sort of medal!

Villa won again, looks like we will be in Europe next season no matter what.

Bolton, well.. Relegation Battle? BACK ON!

Good Weekend for me, I could sit back and laugh at the rest of you...

We are joint 4th what are you on about!

Bolton might be in Europe this season but they might also be in the Championship next!

"Ooops, word censored!"nal won't be top of the league, come what may!

Villa had United in the 3rd Round, which was also a fix as we were meant to have Middlesbrough!

Let's see what happens at the Emirate's on Saturday Helen!
