Peter
Hi all, I purchased my ladies in April last year, They look a little scurfy but they have not moulted yet. Should I be looking into it. Peter
mullethunter
No I shouldn’t worry. It’s most likely that rather than having a big, quick moult that you notice, they’ve done it gradually just losing feathers at a similar rate to growing new ones so you don’t really see it. Or it may be to do with their age. Do you know how old they were when you got them?
Beantree
Their first moult would be around 18 months old Peter. This is based on a Spring hatch and a full laying year starting in September and through to September when they moult and stop laying until the next Spring. This is all very approximate and depends on individuals, breed, location and weather. Some may moult early and lay again until Winter and we've had a Blackrock moult end of November; made a jumper for her to wear.
Peter
Thanks for the replays, they were 16 to 18 weeks old when I got them in April. Thanks Peter
