Couperman
we have six super hens, 2 big white ones that lay cream eggs and bully the rest. 2 smaller white hens that lay pure white eggs and two brown hens that lay brown eggs. Today we got 1 brown, 3 cream and 2 white. Now, Bubble or Squeak have either switched to the dark side of the cube and joined the Imperial Storm Troopers or one has stopped laying an the Stormtroopers are covering for her like on chicken run. Do hens eggs fade in bid to fit in with the other chooks? Bubble has lost a lot of feathers recently to feather pecking bullies , could she be saving the brown dye to colour her new feathers when they grow back? i'm quite perplexed! Kev. Cinnamon
I may be wrong, but I am sure I have read here before about eggs getting paler as a hen ages, or if they are coming into moult/getting broody
Couperman
that might back my theory up a bit One of the brown ones has had an enforced moult, maybe she is diverting her energy into regrowing lost feathers It does look the same shade as the other cream ones though Maybe we will get 2 a day each Kev. Cinnamon
I have had 2 eggs in 1 day from 1 hen before now, & so have some others. You haven't overdone the Poultry Spice, have you ?
The Dogmother
They can change the colour of the eggs they lay, don't knwo what causes it, but Betty's eggs vary from mid-brown to pale beige.
