redfrock
We have 8 chickens. More often than not we get 8 eggs a day, occasionally dropping to 7 on a bad day Carmen lays a double pretty much every day Last week we had 8 eggs every day. I poo-picked at 8am this morning before I went to work.... no eggs. I came home from work at 5.30pm and there were..... ...... ........ .......... 10, yes you read that right ... 10 eggs I have counted my chickens and "Ooops, word censored!"ody has slipped an extra couple in so the mind boggles
Snowy
Oh my goodness! What clever chooks! Thinking about it, that must be where mine have gone - I have 10 chooks and 2 eggs. All the laying hormones must be in your neck of the woods at the moment
chelsea
Ooooh, how bizarre I've never had/heard of a chicken laying more than one egg...is that possible?
redfrock
Ooooh, how bizarre I've never had/heard of a chicken laying more than one egg...is that possible? I guess it must be ... I have the evidence sat in my ceramic egg holder!
Snowy
I've heard that they can do it on the rare occasion. Florrie has done it twice - once a normal egg first thing and a softie later, then funnily enough just the other day an egg first thing then another just before bed time. Clever girls! redfrock
I'm going to have a natter with them later and see if they can manage a round dozen the really amazing thing is that they are all 'proper' eggs, not a softie among them! To be honest I wonder how many of them belong to Carmen, given her production skills. Wouldn't put it past her to be responsible for at least half of them
superjules
My goodness, what are you feeding them? I don't mind telling you I am a teensy bit jealous. We didn't get any eggs today and we've only had 3 since last thursday. I'll have to go and shake my casserole dish menacingly at them to get them focused on the job in hand. superjules
What is a daisybelle anyway? I'll have to get myself one now!!
redfrock
What is a daisybelle anyway? I'll have to get myself one now!! just googled a bit and apparently they are a Silver Sussex, the reverse of a Sussex Star, so where as Bertha is mainly white with black flecks, Carmen is mainly black with silver/white flecks. Both of them are big girls.
superjules
Thanks for that. I'm going to try to hold off getting anymore chickens til one of mine stops laying (they're both 15 month old omlet gingernuts) but I'm very tempted!
