chickencam
Our black and white cat Scamp went missing overnight on Wednesday. She sometimes doesn,t come home first thing in the morning because she crosses the main road and is scared to come home until rush hour is over. This time she didn't arrive back and by lunchtime I realised something was wrong. I walked around loads of places locally shaking her go-cat box and calling her to no avail. When Hubby got home we made some posters and walked miles around sticking them to lamposts etc. I contacted the local vets and Cats Protection. We had really given up hope by 10.15 last night and had flopped sadly down with a cuppa when we heard the cat flap go and she limped into the hall. She looked really shocked, had blood on her cheek and a really bad limp in her left hind leg. She didn't meow and was exhausted. We took her to the out of hours vets and she found two large puncture wounds on her thigh which she said were probably from a fox. My husband had seen a large fox crossing the road near our house that night, so we think she got bitten and then went to ground. We are hoping that it was our calling when the road went quiet at 10 ish that encouraged her to come home. She is doing lots of sleeping and eating and is looking much better now and she will go for a check on her wounds tomorrow evening. We are keeping her and her sister in at least until the weekend. I'm glad the back garden is really enclosed otherwise I would be really worried about the chickens.

Olly
Poor Scamp - I have foxes in the garden, but although my cat is a very keen fighter, he has never tangled with the fox as far as I know. I've seen them both in the garden at the same time, and while he doesn't exactly run off, he gives the fox a wide berth. I hate sounding negative, but don't rely on your garden being 'enclosed' to protect your chooks. Foxes easily jump 6' fences - if your cat can get in and out of the garden, then so can a fox. Hope Scamp recovers quickly.
xChicken04x
Get well soon scamp! Something similar happend to our old cat Droot (she used to make a little "droot" noise instead of a meow hence the name) Anyway, she went missing for 5 days and when she returned she had broken her collar bone Cats always seem amaze me how they recover so quickly! Are you sure little Scamp didnt get bitten by a dog? xxxx
RubyMurray
Hi there, On the subject of foxes, we have at least 4 foxes a night come into our back garden (and poo every where!), they can clear our 6 foot fence with ease (especially when our 2 year old white Boxer Casper hurtles up the garden at high speed!) I have actually seen my cat sitting outside while the fox has eaten bread off the lawn, neither were bothered about the other, so if your cat was attacked by a fox it must have been an old or injured one to do that. I have one cat called Wilbo, he's a 15 year old tom cat (spayed). We did have 5 cats but due to illness/old age now down to 1. Ruff & Tumble were brother & sister, Ruff got cancer in his face, Tumble had epilepsy and eventually had to put to sleep due to the frequency of the fits, Trick & Treat were sisters, Trick had a tumor in her jaw and had to be put to sleep and Treat was found curled up asleep under a neighbours car (a very long sleep!) so here we are with Wilbo, the last one and I hope he has quite a few more years yet. Also have 1 cockerel, 7 hens, 4 chicks, 8 guinea pigs and a tank full of tropical fish, 1 hubby, 1 son & 2 daughters. I think thats enough for now - dont you?! Don't forget to lock all those kittys and doggys away on 5th Nov. Dyan
