pgainey
Yippee. Cash has laid her first egg. Must have been during the day (10-10-2008) I have checked this morning and nothing yet. My wife will check through the day. In all the excitement we forgot to weigh it yet but will let you know. It was perfectly formed and of decent size. I have read about feeding the eggshells back to the chooks. Do you simply microwave them for 30 secs and break it up and put in with feed? Egluntyne
Congratulations. Yes -you can microwave them, or put them in the bottom of a cooling oven. I'm not keen on the smell myself. I smash 'em up in the food processor. It took forever with a pestle and mortar.
Olly
Congratulations! I hope you did the egg dance I usually pop my eggshells in the oven for a few minutes, when it's on for other purposes - you can microwave them, but I tend to overcook them if I do that. You can burn them in the oven as well, if you're really clever ! But yes, that's all you need - a quick 'cook'. Then I crush them with a pestle and mortar and stir a bit into the feed. I quite like the idea that I'm recycling their own calcium!

Carol U
Congratulations! Getting your first egg is the best feeling. I just put my shells in the bottom of the oven when it's on for something else and then break them up with a rolling pin. As someone else said though, don't leave them too long or they burn. Good luck.
Jules.
I mash my cooked shells with a fork & then crumble with my fingers.
Snowy
Congratulations on your first egg! I've burnt too many shells in the oven - I rinse mine and leave them on the draining board to air dry. Mine go on the veg patch to deter (hopefully) slugs and snails.
Omletina Kyckling
Congratulations! That's wonderful! I meant to put my eggshells in my Rayburn earlier but forgot and left them on the top, but it has dried them out beautifully anyway, so I'll do that in future, I think!
