chookinalong
I have four hens, two warrens and two araucana hybrids which lay blue eggs. All through summer they have all laid every day, so two brown and two blue eggs per day. The last few weeks, as is to be expected, one or two of them will not lay on random days. I have kept chickens for many years and I fully understand how laying frequency drops in winter. What I cannot fathom is this. Yesterday all four birds laid as normal, but today I found five eggs in the nestbox, four brown and one blue egg! I know lock down for chickens and humans is driving us to despair but unless I have lost a marble I cannot explain this. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Lewis
Do you have deep bedding in the nest box and any way they could have hidden one yesterday? Unlikely but not impossible, could be a coincidence with timings too.
