Faye&Ant
Hi does anyone know if its ok to give my girls pineapple. They have eaten some today and they loved it but I am worried it is a bit harsh on their little stomachs
theherd123
I must say ive never tried my chooks on pineapple - i suppose if they like it it wont do them much harm but i wouldnt give them too much or too often as it may make their poohs runny! Faye&Ant
Thanks for that - maybe I will keep it to an occasional treat to be on the safeside, I know all about those runny poo's after too much fruit and veg
Cinnamon
Isn't Pineapple a citrus fruit? I may be wrong here, but if it is it would be a no-no for chickens. I would probably avoid it anyway as its very acidic.
chocchick
They can tolerate little bits of almost anything, which is lucky given what they eat Not sure about the answer to your question though.
Minky
My girls like banana, tho I wouldn't give em too much, three words; Foamy. Yellow. Poo.
Happymama
Pineapple is packed with an anti-inflammitory enzyme called Brommelin. It's (or used to be) used in pile cream, for instance. Don't think it's a citrus fruit, either. Can't see a bit would do them any good, regardless. Mine eat raw potatoes all the time and have come to no harm, and MANY say they shouldn't. (I don't feed it, the blighters DUG THEM UP!)

I've had the same problem this summer, measly crops of everything because they dug up and scoffed just about everything I planted, regardless of whether or not each crop was supposed to be good for them Can't help with the pineapple question though
