Fabergé
This afternoon I went along to the local horse feed/tack shop to check out supplies in readiness for my new hens. One of the assistants there said he kept chickens & was very helpful. I asked if they had any garlic powder, the man looked at me as if I was barking "what do you want that for" he said "err, I've read it's good for making their poo less smelly" I replied. I think he assumed I meant the stuff for cooking! - they aren't the same are they?? Gloria
Dancing Gal
Yep - I got my from Botley mil as they sell all the horsey stuff there. Can't believe how stinky the garlic powder is though. I've been mixing it with the pellets but I find it makes the dish very sticky.
Guest
I guess horsey people are used to the smell of horse pooh and may not mind the smell of chicken pooh in comparison- maybe he doesn't need to use it I got the same stunned response at my local stables where i got mine. Egluntyne
My "horsey" shop had shelves of the stuff, no one batted an eyelid when I said it was for my chickens.
Hen Watch
Hi Faberge, Welcome to another Wokingham forum member. I buy my "NAF Garlic Powder" tub from Eileen Douglas Tack Shop in Easthampstead Rd, Wokingham. Is that where you went??? It costs £5 a tub and the tub says "a straight natural-feed stuff for horses" and it is the right stuff to buy. I also get "NAF Apple Cidre Vinegar" £6.25 which is on the same shelf (just on the left inside the door) to put 2 capfulls in with their drinking water to aid digestion and keep them in good condition. I also buy my layers pellets, mixed corn and auboise bales from there too. (Unfortunately feed is not organic but I can't be bothered to treck over to CWF in Twyford to be told it is out of stock again).
