Adding new girls

Recommended Posts

I lost my darling Opal about a month ago & have Amber (goldline) & Henny (Specklady) now. We are moving on Tuesday & I have a 20m * 20m chicken run for them ( I got my diamensions muddled) & they are going to look a little lost. Was wondering what would be the best to introduce & should I buy a new eglu or go totally mad & have a cube?

I know this may seem anti eglu but its not because i have one! :D and its great :D but i think you could just buy a garden shed and build some roosting bars for it because then you could get loads of chooks and if you have no neibours a rooster :D:D:D and with all that space 20m by 20m you wont have any issue with the amont of hens you get (Within Reason) and you will probably save quite alot of money

its just a suggestion

thats a really good size - I have a run 40' by 25' ish and keep a Cube (without the omlet run) with 7 hens, a little home made single studio coop for Evil Georgie, and I have an Eglu plus run in there with "Ooops, word censored!"ody in it!

If I were you I'd get a Cube - but I would say that! I think the cube might be good value for you because you wouldn't need to buy the run.

Go for a cube... and more chooks!! :D Until then consider them very very free range eggs

Mine have a converted greenhouse plus another run attached to it easily about a 17ft x 9ft space.... yet they spend most of their time scratching about in the greenhouse bit

When we let them out they only use one section of our lawn - the bit on the way to the garden bench which they can't wait to sit on!

Basically, my chooks aren't very adventurous - we give them the freedom and they are just too 'chicken':lol: (Groan)
