Good morning everyone,

 

Just a quick question - Squeak has been laying for exactly 1 week now and this morning her egg was on the roosting bars and a little pooey

 

I think I read somewhere on the forum (but can't find the post) that you're not supposed to wash the eggs as they have some kind of special coating or something? Is this right? And what do you normally do with poo covered eggs?

Damp kitchen paper to get the worst bits off is all I do.

 

If you do wash them, use warm water not cold. Sounds back to front I know.

 

Dry thoroughly.

If the eggs are really pooey then i wipe them with a damp cloth to get the 'big' bits off. Then give them a dry with kitchen paper. You can but special egg cleaning powder but i just give them a wipe.
