anti battery farming petition, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease sign

Recommended Posts

The only way to stop this is to buy nothing but free range eggs and egg products and encourage everyone you know to do the same.

i do that as well, i think both are important- showing the governement (via the petition) AND the farmers (by not buying the eggs or products containing the eggs) how we feel.

My conscience won't allow me to say, 'oh well if the UK stop producing battery eggs then battery eggs will flood in from abroad so I'll do nothing.'

For instance, Hellmans mayonnaise use Dutch battery eggs, I've mailed them to tell them ho I feel. In fact we looked for free range mayo today and it doesn't exist in Asda so I'm going to make my own.

If there was a petition to make people stop buying battery eggs then that would solve all the problems but there aint so, like I say, I'm doing both.

My conscience wont allow me to move the problem on to countries whose welfare standards and record on animal rights are far worse than the worst excesses of factory farming in the UK. I would love to see all battery cages taken out and crushed tomorrow but Joe Blow is too wedded to cheap food no questions asked for that ever to happen.

The spirit of the petition and of your posting it here is 200% admirable but banning battery cages in the UK would ultimately lead to more suffering elsewhere, it shouldnt be that way and it stinks that it is. :(

we're not the only country fighting for the welfare of our animals, there are organisations all over the world campaigning for change, we do we can and they do what they can.

We shouldn't do nothing, I'm reminded of a quote from Mother Theresa

"Love begins by taking care of the closest ones - the ones at home."

Most countries might have organisations campaigning for animal welfare, but it's true that the UK tends to be much more ahead... I do not remember ever seeing a free range egg in a shop when I lived in Belgium, and the mentality there when you question what you eat is often very much on the 'shut up and eat' line...

Mother Teresa, I'm sure, didn't mean that taking care of those closest ones was supposed to be done independantly of any consequences abroad. One should care for close ones rather than neglect them in favour of faraway strangers, but not harm faraway strangers out of wanting quick results at home.

We can't just decide to do things at home, just blindly trusting that other people abroad will choose to follow our good example rather than make a profit from our concern for animals. I'm sure "Ooops, word censored!"ody on here decides it's fine to do 'nothing', but that doesn't mean I would rush into doing what I feel is the wrong thing just to make my conscience clear. Farmers don't have it easy, it will take time to transit to free range everywhere, with support and pressure from the general public hopefully it will happen, but not overnight through a ban.

Hello everyone,

Could all the people who, like me, wouldn't sign the first petition about banning battery eggs in the UK, possibly let us have their view on this new one about banning in the EU? It seems way more helpful, but would like to hear the views of a few people, as I don't know whether this could have some unwanted consequences... There seems to be people out there with more knowledge than me, and I'd be grateful for some opinions... I just don't want to sign anything unless I'm sure it's something I really agree with...

Sorry Poet, am not trying to undermine your efforts, I understand we all care for animals here, but just want to check if there is anything I haven't thought of before I sign the petition...
