My Unfreindly PEKINS !!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Whats going on????? We have 4 bantams in total, 2 Polands who love being handled and are just plain stupid. And we also have 2 pekins who I thought 'loved to be handled and are great with children'.... oh no not ours, they like to chase the doves in the garden, run away whenever we attempt to go near them and bark, yes bark like a jack russell????:shock::shock:

The only way they come to you is if there are grapes on offer then they are like straight to you, wip them out your hand and rocket off down the garden grape in mouth.

They are only young and in time I hope they become a little more friendly as its murder trying to catch them!

Some of my pekins are lovely but some are just little madames. Popcorn, (lavender pekin) who some of you may remember was so badly bullied by the large girls that we had to buy an eglu and some more bantams to keep her company has now turned into the eglu evil chicken. Poor Nigella (frizzle pekin) has been a bit odd lately and I noticed Popcorn pecking her every time she approached the bowls of food but Nigella has been very clever at avoiding capture for closer inspection. Tonight she was so weak that she couldn't resist. Also, she was being sat on by six bantams so she couldn't get far away.

She had no food in her crop and she was all skin and bone. I honestly thought that she was going to die as she lay in my hand.

We have brought her inside, managed to tempt her with a tiny amount of layers mash and we have rubbed her beak with cool water.

She has now fallen asleep in a box of straw. I think that tomorrow she will have to become an honourary quail. Will try her in with the others after breakfast but if all else fails then she will have to live with the quail in a separate run. I could separate another bantam to keep her company when she regains her strength.

If it's any consolation, Cochins are supposed to be gentle, docile giants but mine rule the cube.
