Hello I want to put up an electric fence to keep Mr Fox away but I have no knowledge on what I need etc.  I would want a solar system that charges the battery itself as quite far away from mains power.

 

Is there a simple kit that would work?

I have no experience with such a system, but have had a look into a solar panel for on my moms caravan. But those are VERY expensive.

To get a decent voltage and large enough battery needs a expensive kit I guess.

But you get a battery powered kit. The ones used to fence sheep in for example.

You need to explain what you want to protect Dan. Have you a chicken enclosure already and what is it made of? There is no simple system because solar charging doesn't work in Winter, unless you have a much bigger panel than is sold with a standard kit. Then the earth circuit is just as important as the live.
