chicklit
I thought that chickens went to bed as soon as it was dark. Tonight I went down the garden to close the Eglu door just after eight o'clock and found my three girls in the run clucking happily and scratching around in the dark. I asked them what they were doing and then told them they should be in bed but it seemed that they wanted to stay up late tonight. I finally managed to close the door at about nine o'clock. xScrunchee
Mine have done that a few times too! Also, when I step outside the security light comes on so some nights every time I go out-they jump out of their Eglu and run over to see me!! This game can go on till 8-9 o'clock
chicklit
I've had that problem with the security light too. Now I tend to turn the light off and find my way down the garden in the dark so they don't keep coming out. I'm tempted to leave the Eglu door open all night but I like to know they are nice and secure. I think I will have to leave it open when the mornings get lighter though because it won't be fair to keep them locked in until I get up. Only had my chooks a month though so I'm pretty new to all this. Brenda
chelsea
i think it depends on their moods and the weather also. When its been a bright and sunny day my lot tend to stay up late. When its been miserable its usually tea and then straight to bed. Lately mine have been going in the run for tea at 4pm. and they've gone to bed by 4.45. newlaidegg
I am so glad someone else is having this problem. At 2.45am this morning my husband woke me to tell me that 'my hens' were acting oddly. I looked outside and three of the hens were trotting up and down feeding. I have had loads of bullying problems and thought that this was the problem. I managed to get two back in but only after half an hour did I realise that the problem might be the security lighting. I popped my head torch on (so now in pyjamas and wellies and head torch in garden at 3.15am) and switched off security lighting and bingo! in she trotted. Had I realised earlier, I could have saved myself a lot of bother... This evening when they went in, I closed the eglu door
Richard
I've never ever had this problem. Mine go to bed as regular as clockwork, all together as it gets dusk. They all come out of the Cube in the morning at exactly the same time as well - when I open the door for them!
