Andrew's
HAPPY NEW YEAR! We have had Peppa and George now for a couple or 3 months. They often wonder around the garden during the day, digging up all my wood chippings Today they went under my conifers and started digging a hole together that got deeper and deeper. One of them sat in the hole whilst the other stuck her head under the other one and dug??? What's all that about???
Sheilaz
Hi! Mine have found that conifer bases make the best nest spots and also dustbathing areas. I'm sure that's what your happy hens are doing too.
Cinnamon
Yep,sounds like a double dust bath to me too. Funny things, aren't they?
Christian
I must admit, the first time I saw one of mine having a dust bath, i thought she was fitting!! I now use a cat litter tray with sides and cover it partially with a cloche........I fill it with ash from the fire and they love it. Tessa the Duchess
My three who are inseparable all dustbathe in the same hole they have dug underneath a stand of bamboo, which is one of the few shrubs in the garden they haven't decimated they always make me laugh when they all pile in on top of each other Tessa
Cheshire Chooks
3 of ours dustbathed in same hole today under our huge conifer which is the site that at present has the driest soil in the garden. As most other trees and shrubs are leafless this makes sense.

Hen Watch
Hi Andrew's. My kids found it hilarious when the chooks got really excited and started "purring" whilst dusbathing. Sounds just like a cat.....
