likeastar--x
Hello again! I want to know what happens when you keep chicks. Im keeping chickens for the eggs mostly, but my kids really had their hearts set on chicks. However, are they like kittens and puppys in that they must be supervised, fed etc all the time? And if so how long is this period? Can you introduce chicks you hatch to chickens you already own? Sorry if these questions are obvious, im a real beginner
AnnieP
Hi again! I suggest you take a look at this post. feemcg
I keep my chicks in a brooder in the house for 3-4 weeks then they go out to a run within the garage and sleep in an eglu. I don't introduce them to the big girls until about 12-14 weeks, although they can always see each other through the mesh.
Egluntyne
You have to be prepared for the fact than some or all of the chicks you hatch will be boys. You will then have to do some serious thinking. It might be better to wait until you are a little more experienced before you embark upon hatching. ubereglu
To get around the problem of male chicks have you considered getting day old sex linked chicks, that way you don't have to find/borrow/buy and incubator.
