chickenlover
i was in my kitchen when i heard one of my girls making an awful noise, i went out and she had just laid an egg, but it has blood on the shell, not alot but its still there. I have three polish hens and have been getting about 1/2 eggs a day and sometimes none, so i dont know if this could possibly be the first one she has laid or if she has been laying all the time, sorry if this doesnt make much sense but im worried
Christian
If they are new to laying, they occasionally lay eggs with blood streaks on. They may have ruptured a small blood vessel. Have a look at her vent and if it is clean, then I wouldn't worry about her. I'm sure she will be fine.
chickenlover
i have checked her vent and all looks compleatly normal, she is acting just fine, scratching ,eating and drinking, it gives me such a panick when anything happens like this
Christian
I can imagine! A little blood goes a long way. As long as she is alert and scratching around, she will be okay
Egluntyne
One of my girls laid a blood stained egg the other week. I was quite worried, but they all seemed totally unfazed by the event and their bottoms were all OK so I stopped worrying.
chelsea
my cochin laid her 1st today and there was a slight blood smear on it, just must be the straining. It was tiny but ever ever so shiney....almost like it had been painted in "silk" paint.
