3 pretty bantams need new home

Recommended Posts

I want to thank Lesley for the privilege of adopting her three gorgeous little bantams.

In my joy of having them, I have not forgotten how heartbreaking it must be to have to let them go, and I will keep you updated Lesley on how they do.

Rory came all the way from London to bring them here - and it was very much appreciated - so too the pellets.

The girls have been behaving as though they have been here all the time - and have tucked into the layers mash that I had prepared for them, and they really loved the tinned sweetcorn.

They ate as much as Adelaide , Ginger, and KoKKo do!

So please, if any of you do get the opportunity to adopt any chooks in the coming months for whatever reason - spare a thought for the person that has loved them before you, just as much, and has had to give them up.

I am so lucky that I live in a rural area which is surrounded by poultry farming as well as arable and pig farming, so half a dozen chickens in a garden seems insignificant to the thousands in farms all over East Anglia.

My heartfelt thanks to you and your family Lesley, you can visit them at any time that you wish.

Good luck with the new girls Kooringa, they sound delightful and they're very lucky yo have a great new home with you and Kokko, Ginger & Adelaide. I hope that they all settle down together very quickly.

I agree with everything you said about remembering the people who had to give up their hens. I got my lovely Lottie from Tracy on the forum nearly 3 weeks ago, who felt that she had to give her up because of a predatory fox that had already got 2 other chickens, and was out to get Lottie too. I know that Tracy and her family were unhappy at letting her go, but did what they felt was best for her welfare, and I'm sending them silent thanks just about every day because Lottie is just so lovely :D I'm sure that you feel pretty much the same.

I can relate to that.

My eglu came complete with the girls because the previous owners were emigrating.

I was mindful of their feelings and asked if they wanted to come and visit to make sure that we were what they wanted for their girls.

When I got pregnant I had to find a new home for my lizard as my hubby wouldn't have anything to do with him and it was unfair to keep him when I couldn't do my best for him.

My mum took him and so he was cared for and handled as he had always been used to but I can't begin to tell you how hard that was because I'd had him for 7 years.

I get really upset by the stories you see on Pet Rescue and Animal Hospital where people can't see that they would be doing the best for their animals by letting somebody else give them a good home.

Kooringa,

Can't really say much that hasn't already been said! But congratulations and very well done. I hope your new little feathered buddies give you many hours of happiness and good company.

I am sure that a anyone who has had to give up a pet really appreciates that you share my feelings on this.

The little threesome, I am sure, will soon get on with the big threesome, and I have been getting advice from people on my blog.

My intention is to let the bantams settle in tomorrow and keep them in the run, as I did when I got my three in November. My three will have the pen area all day - and they can all hurtle as much abuse as they like at each other through the bars and get it out of their systems.

Then if they quieten down, I will repeat the procedure the next day - when hopefully the new run extention wiill have arrived.

Once that is attached I will pop the biggies in the Eglu at night when they are all asleep and get up early the next day. I am getting so many people who have kept chickens and some as many as 100 tell me that is the best way to do it. Just put them in in the dark and by the morning they will have sorted themselves out.

At least I know that the banties can fly and can perch up out of the way.

I will keep you posted.

Thanks Mel

On my www yesterday was a message in the comments box from 'the 14 year old who gave up the London Ladies', (London Ladies is the group nicksname for them as they are alwasy dressed up to the nines in perfectly groomed. They remind my of Ladies dressed up for Ascot in My Fair Ladies.

I had tears in my eyes when I read it. It a sweet note. I had already typed up a letter from Dilly, Freckles and Pumpkin writing home to say what it was like on holiday in Norfolk.

Just go to print off some photos and post it
