Daisy & Hattie
Over the past 2 weeks my 2 girls have started to eat their own poo. Does anyone have any idea why? I wondered if its because I put a little bit of garlic powder into their food?
Guest
not come across that before. Do they have food on tap?

Egluntyne
Me neither, although they do peck at the contents of the poo tray when I am emptying it. Such bad manners.
Westie
I'm not an eggspert but if they were dogs you may look to see if there was something missing in their diet. If they are free ranging are they eating enough rations ?- (layers or mash) Advice I have been given before is to not let them out straight away in the morning so that they will eat enough. Being winter, the normal insect life etc isn't so available so they may not be getting the right vitamins etc. Just a thought. chelsea
hubby said that its good apparently for them to eat their own poo and not to worry about it. Something to do with enzymes and all that. He did find a link to another website about it but he's gone to sleep now and I cant ask him!
Egluntyne
It is to do with vitamin B2 (Riboflavin). Apparently some high energy poultry diets are deficient in it. All very complicated. Look **here** The posh word for poo eating is "coprophagy". Lovely.
Daisy & Hattie
Thanks for your suggestions. They have layers pellets and maybe all of the nutrients have gone, as the 20 kg sack is almost empty. Just as well I bought a new bag the other day. I've given them some from the new supply and will continue to do so and see how it goes. Thanks again everyone.
