Pinkybijou
Ooh, only just found this thread. Mine aren't from Omlet but Doris is imminent, I think, so just thought I'd say hi here too! I've had them almost 8 weeks and Doris seems to be showing all the signs and I'm waiting with baited breath now..... redhotchick
Hello Pinkybijou, I'm still waiting! This is my girls 5th week with me. I'm away tonight and my chicken minder (!) has said she won't peek in the nesting box, so that if there are any eggs I will see them first. Very thoughtful of her! redhotchick
Hi All, I found an egg in the nesting box today! Clever Chicken! I found it first thing this morning when I let them out. It weighed 52 grams, and is quite a dark brown. I was very happy. I hope I get one (or two) everyday now!

Reikiranf
Fantastic news redhotchick and well done Dolce you clever girl , hopefully we'll all be reporting back soon with news of our first eggs. Your first Easter egg and I bet you weren't disappointed it's not chocolate
Clarabelle
Hi Cathy, Well done to Dolce! Nice size first egg. My Gingernut, Annie, has now started crouching as well so she could well sneak in there and lay before Clarabel does. Mind you, Clarabel's wattles and comb were really red today and are looking bigger still. Annie's are much smaller. I was so loathed to buy a box of eggs in Sainsbury's yesterday.... let's hope that will be my last one. Come all to all those girls who are imminent! Sarah B
Please can anyone post a pic of their Omlet girls heads with wattles and combs displayed now they are laying so as I can make a comparison with my hens? Many thanks in advance Sarah xx

Clarabelle
Hi Sarah, I've just compared pictures in my gallery with some pictures taken today and the girls' faces are so much redder, it has changed the way they look quite significantly. I'l try and upload them in a minute. Reikifanf - great news that you got your first egg, I'm just praying we will get one tomorrow, that would be sooooooo great! Still haven't invested in some digital scales yet, the half price ones were out of stock in Argos on Thursday
Clarabelle
Sarah, I've put two pics of Clarabel and one of Annie up in my gallery so you can see the difference in facial colour and wattle/comb size. Now all we need is that first egg!
redhotchick
Reikiranf, congratulations on first egg! how are you going to eat it? I have 2 now, might have them this morning, poached! Sarah B, I've put "arrival" and "egg laying" photos of Bella and Dolce in the gallery, so you can see their combs. Happy Easter!
Clarabelle
YAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!! CLARABEL LAID TODAY!!!!! A very respectable egg too, just over 6cm long and roughly 65g. In fact, bigger than the medium free range ones I've got in the fridge. We're all soooooo happy. We saw Clarabel go into the eglu this morning, but she came out really quickly. I checked and all she had done was kick the shredded paper around a bit. But she went in again soon after and emerged about half an hour later. We checked again and there was an absolutely beautiful first egg! I'll put some pics in the gallery soon. Not sure how it is going to be served yet, but we might wait until there are more and we can all have one.
Reikiranf
That's fantastic news Clarabelle and well done Clarabel you clever girl We got our second egg today it weighs 49 grams, we aren't yet sure how we'll eat them but have time to think as it's forbidden until DH has taken photos of them
freddie
I've only ever had 2nd hand chickens, (and 2nd haND CATS, FISH, ETC...) SO i HAVEN'T HAD ANY OF THIS EXCITEMENT sTill, at least the kids were new when I got them!!! My girls(the hens) lay most days, but hate this wind, and seal their btms up!We're down to 4 eggs at the mo, and it makes me realise how reliant I am on them!!! redhotchick
Hi Claire! Well done Clarabel! Come on Tikka and Madras, we are all waiting on you now! I've had an egg a day from Dolce now. Still waiting on Bella. I'm going away on Wednesday and my "chicken sitter" is away too! I'm going to de-camp the girls to my mums for a few days! I've haven't mentioned it to her yet! (although I have said to her that this might happen, she didn't seem to mind the idea!) Hopefully Bella will start laying while I'm away and mum will have lots of eggs! I'll miss my hens! Timmy
Sorry to bring some bad news but my marmite didn't lay for over 2 months im sure you will be more lucky than me.
redhotchick
Bella has laid her first egg! 40 grams and pale beige. I noticed that both the girls were in and out a bit this morning. Sure enough when I checked there where two perfect eggs! Bella's was sitting in the whole in the nesting box, it was quite cold, must have been there a while. Dolce's was still very warm. It's funny but Bella is a bigger bird and I would have thought that she would lay the bigger eggs. I guess it just doesn't work like that! Chuckov
Congrats Cathy, have been watching the egg thread and am feeling very proud for all the new layers!!! Ginger and Nutmeg have both got red wattles and cheeks, but still whitish combs so think we will be another couple of weeks. Can't wait
