Clarabelle
Hi folks, I'm so excited about getting our first egg, I just wanted to know if there are any other people out there who've had eggs from Omlet hens that have been delivered in the last 2 or 3 weeks. The guy that installed our Eglu said he thought our Pepperpot looked nearly ready to lay from the colour of her wattles and cheeks, but she hasn't yet (unless it is under a bush). I'm not seeing the crouching behaviour in either of our girls at the moment, so perhaps they aren't ready yet. Just wanted to compare notes with others as I was told the Omlet hens usually come in large batches that are roughly the same age. Cheers! Chillicat
Hi Claire We've only had our five Omlet girls.... a week tomorrow . No layers yet, but I've noticed how the combs and wattles are growing and changing colour on a daily basis, which is very exciting Hopefully when the eggs start coming, they will lay in the morning - I can then let them out in the afternoon without worrying too much about them laying under the bushes That's the theory I couldn't bear the thought of missing the first one Hope you have some good news soon and that your first egg is a good experience
Reikiranf
Hi Claire & Chillicat, We've had our girls for nearly 2 weeks and there's no sign of any eggs yet but we live in hope , my Mum & Dad bought me the Eglu & chooks for my birthday and I bought my dad a new mobile phone for his so that I can send them a picture of our first egg
Sarah B
I have had mine 2 weeks tomorrow and no layers but the combs are getting pinker and a bit bigger. The Omlet man said mine were young about 16 weeks so I'm not getting too excited yet.
Clarabelle
Hello again everyone, Sarah - I think our girls are from a different batch to yours as the Omlet guy said ours were 19 weeks (over 2 weeks ago). Reikiranf - what an absolutely fantastic birthday present, your mum and dad must be really So many people want to know as soon as we find our first egg so I think I'll have to set up a list on my mobile and text them all straight away. Chillicat - you are going to have a really lovely lot of eggs when they all start laying aren't you? Any ideas what you are going to do with them? I keep checking the bushes, but nothing yet.... My nearly three year old son keeps singing "chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me" when he goes out in the garden, bless him Fingers crossed it won't be too long now! Clarabelle
Oooo... Sharon, your girls are surely from the same batch as mine. We're both in the South East and got them at roughly the same time. I'm really excited now. Hope we don't have to wait two months iike farrowy, that must have seemed like aaaages! redhotchick
Omlet don't deliver chickens to my area so I got my 2 girls from a farm in Cheshire. I was told they were 16 to 17 weeks old. I've had them 4 weeks already and no eggs yet.
SharonX
Hi, sounds like they are from the same batch. He said most are in batches of 60 so It is likely. I was really shocked at my first egg as I still wasn't expecting anything from them for a while. I just noticed she was throwing straw from the nest everywhere then picking it all back up & putting it back & thought I wonder! Its is such a lovely feeling when you get your first one & indeed everyone after! It is amazing how you take for granted every box you buy from the supermarket but how prescious every one is that comes from your own. Truley marvellous! I intend filling a box for Mum & Dad & tying a ribbon round for easter.

redhotchick
My little red hen is crouching, throws straw about, has a red comb, all the signs, but still no eggs I'll just have to keep waiting and checking.

HasSumAmi
We got our girls from Omlet on 15th February - two Gingernut Rangers. Still no sign of eggs, but I was told 5-6 weeks, as they were 16 or 17 weeks old when they arrived.
Clarabelle
Well, Clarabel, our Pepperpot, was definitely crouching today, no doubt about it. Not seen any throwing of aubiose though. Annie, our Gingernut is definitely not crouching though and I compared their combs today when they were standing side by side. Clarabel's is definitely taller and redder. BarbaraJ - you're right, it is very much like expecting a baby - thank goodness it's not me doing the pushing this time
Lone Ranger
We got our gingernut and pepperpot from Omlet on 7th Feb, and today the gingernut laid her first egg !! perfectly formed and 59g. I was sure the pepperpot would be first as she seems to be bigger with bigger comb and wattles - so I guess she won't be far behind. So a 6 week wait overall - but I think our girls were quite young when we got them ( I thnk there's been a lot of demand in the last couple of months, so it could be that they are having to supply younger hens to keep up)
HasSumAmi
Ooooh Lone Ranger - yours seem to be a week before mine. Maybe that means I'll get a real egg for Easter? Was your gingernut crouching the week before she laid?
Reikiranf
Mimi has been crouching for the last couple of days & behaving a tad strangely Today she was walking round the run but ducking down and going under the grub, I thought that may have been because they didn't get to free range for long yesterday due to the weather so I let them out for a couple of hours when I got home from work, she seems to be developing a big appetite and can come across as a bit aggressive although I think she's just keen to get her treats as she keeps jumping up and she even went back into the run for some pellets And she made me jump when I was sitting on the bench with my legs crossed and she used my foot as a perch I'm hoping to get an egg for Easter I mean the non chocolate variety! but please be assured that anyone bringing me a chocolate egg will not be turned away
Clarabelle
I'm hoping to get an egg for Easter I mean the non chocolate variety! but please be assured that anyone bringing me a chocolate egg will not be turned away I'll second that! I kept looking in the nest and in the shrubbery today, but no sign. Perhaps tomorrow..... Come on Clarabel and Mimi!
redhotchick
It sounds like a few of us are in the same boat. I got my Chickens the day after HasSumAmi and was also told they were 16 to 17 weeks. I'm off work next week, I'll be checking for eggs all the time! and will keep you updated!
Lone Ranger
Ooooh Lone Ranger - yours seem to be a week before mine. Maybe that means I'll get a real egg for Easter? Was your gingernut crouching the week before she laid? Hi HasSumAmi, yes I noticed her crouching about 4 or five days ago. And the best bit is that my pepperpot Pecks was obviously feeling left out as she layed her first egg today !! along with a second from Posh - I'm so happy that they are now paying for their keep !! Clarabelle
Great to hear that Posh and Pecks are earning their keep now Lone Ranger! Well done those chooks! Still nothing from Clarabel, but boy, is she crouching in earnest today. Her hormones must be raging, bless her
MrandMrsG
Hi, We had our 1st egg exactly after a month from when they were delivered, and it was well worth they wait They now lay virtually every day - but on the odd occasion we'll only have two eggs during the day - I guess one of them is having the day off!
