HENthusiastic
Clever Henrietta has laid her first (small) egg today! Bless her. She had just dropped it outside on a small piece of turf I put in for them yesterday! Anita also laid....... so it was my first day of having TWO eggs! Henriettas egg is darker than Anitas and has dark brown spots (you cant see them on the picture). Will their eggs continue to be distinct from each other? Although Henriettas wattles and crown have gone a darker red, they are still very small. I bought them a single piece of turf from the garden center yesterday and put it in for them......... they love it. I guess henrietta was especially keen on it as thats where she chose to lay her first ever egg!
superjules
Ah, lovely. What types are your hens Henthusiastic? I don't think their eggs ever change colour to any great degree, so you should be able to tell who's laid what.

alih
I have 2 chooks and can tell their eggs apart - one lays much pointier eggs than the other, and they tend to be darker too - a gingernut and a rocket so not dissimilar in colour...well done and enjoy those eggs! HENthusiastic
Thanks everybody. I'm not sure what breed my chooks are!! I had spent hours reading about breeds but then when we went to get them, I found myself just wandering around in a bit of a daze and pointing at ones I liked the look of! I posted piccis of them and asked people and I think the general consensus was that they are hibrids. Possibly an amberstar type, a black rock cross and a Isa Brown Warren. They are all lovely! I can now tell that ANitas eggs are lighter and Henriettas are quite dark! You are all right...... they are quite distinct!
