Laura007
the newbies are in a seperated bit inside the big run. nuggett and Henno are still giving them the once over, and the terrible squawking seem to have stopped. for the moment. noodle i think will probably be at the bottom of the pecking order when thay all go together as she is very quiet and seems abit timid. nuggett has been staring at them both and henno seems to like to have abit of charge at the run the new ones are in, but other than that not alot is happening. its probably to early to tell if there are going to be major issues, but time will tell. fingers crossed. Laura007
i am at work at the moment and i can only imagine whats going on at home. paul let the new ones out first and then let nuggett and henno out. henno was still not impressed and was having a good old squark. nuggett didnt seem to make any noise today but was still having a look to decide if she likes them or not. still not sure. i just hope the neighbours are all out at work if there is a comotion. last night we wiped noodles comb and beak with tea tree oil and she didnt seem to mind to much and she does look a bit happier this morning. its not nice to see them pecking at each other and i am dreading it when we have to let them all go in together. fingers still crossed! Laura007
nightmare!!!! gerty has managed to get out of her secure run! i think she has been tormented a bit by nuggett and henno but doesnt seem to be carrying any war wounds apart from a little blood on her comb. but we did find an egg!!!!! the tiddyest egg you have ever seen!!!! nuggett and henno are in the smaller run for abit so noodle and gerty can have a forage around for a while. cor its really quite stressful all this introducing new chooks. fingers still very firmly crossed. Laura007
well day 5 and they are still seperated, gerty seems to be giving noodle a little peck from time to time, although it seems that noole is a clever little chicken and knows exactly where to go to bed and gerty doesnt, so i'm not sure if she is just trying to say "oi i'm the boss in here". we think we will try to get them to all go together some time next week. fingers still crossed. motherhen
They MAY be nasty to each other, but don't assume it will happen. There is one bit about introducing Doris and Mabel to my spoilt older hens Sybil and Pollo that I haven't yet revealed to save blushes from said spoilt girls. However, in the interests of helping others get more hens - here goes. (please don't publicise outside the forum ) Brought D & M home and put 3 lots of food and water in the run, together with extra greens and a scattering of corn over the whole run. S & P get up from dozing in the sun and decide this looks promising. Put D&M into run, expecting to have to rush in to pull S&P off them...... S&P did a very good imitation of prim Victorian ladies catching sight of a mouse, or a naked male, 'gathered up their fluffy skirts' and rushed squawking to the far corner of the run. They stayed there for the whole day, squawking loudly and looking totally horrified. D & M wandered round the run deciding this was quite a nice place to live, and not affected at all by the hysterical females in the corner Things did settle down over the next few days, although I won't expose S&P to more derision by revealing the evening fun with roosting, but there was never very much in the way of pecking, just beak pokes if S&P felt they should have first go at any treats but D&M were very good at moving away.
