Rolo Rabbit
We got egg number 2 today!! We've had a couple of soft-shelled specimens since Saturday but we're not completely sure who laid today's as it's so much smaller than Saturday's torpedo laid by Shirley. Shirley and Bella disappeared into the nesting box (they do most things together - sweet) and came out again 20 minutes later leaving behind the tiddly egg. Please let me know if you can see a photo here - I'm having probs and can't see any of mine at the mo.
Egluntyne
I can see it! Lovely egg cups!
Rolo Rabbit
Thanks Egluntine. My daughter bought the yellow one last year in a lovely little crafty shop in North Devon and a friend bought the blue one (with a matching pink one) in anticipation of our first egg! I had another chicken present yesterday from another friend and it's not even my birthday! People seem to be intrigued by the whole chicken thing. HENthusiastic
Hi Rolo Rabbit. Two out of three of my girls have just recently started laying. Both of them laid a very small egg as their very first one, after that they were small, but a lot bigger than their first tiddlers. After about a week, Anita is now laying average sized eggs, but Henriettas are still smallish. Anita also laid one huge egg which turned out to be a double yoker!!! I agree, the egg cups are great! redbug
every day a different egg a different size. What will be waiting for us next I wonder.
TAJ
Have you eaten the torpedo egg yet? Was it a double yoker? One of mine will lay a smallish 'normal' egg and then lay a couple of giant double yokers and then go back to a small egg for the next day. It may be yours is doing the same thing. Rolo Rabbit
No we've not eaten it yet - we're waiting til we have 4 eggs so we can all have one! My daughter has bagged the torpedo as it was definitely her hen that laid it. I think you're right TAJ - we had another 39grammer today - so dinky - so maybe it will be torpedo day again tomorrow! Do you know which of yours lays the bigguns? I've a feeling it's you who has the same breeds of hens as me.
TAJ
Hi Rollo Rabbit, Yes we do have a matching set of chooks - it is our bluebelle that is laying lots of double yokers, but the blackrock laid the odd one initially, but her eggs are darker and now she lays 'normal' 58g everyday. Its the bluebelle whos eggs swing between 52g or 80g depending on the day. Just trying to keep us on our toes I think! Tracy
