Sky HD

Recommended Posts

Just had a look at that Digital Spy forum, looks quite interesting.

It is OH who wants Sky HD, we just have freeview at the mo so as he will be paying for it as well as a new HD tv to watch it on I'm just going with the flow! I do think it's a lot of money though that's why I wanted some personal feedback.

Personally I would rather have a cube and more chooks but it's his money and he doesnt want anymore hens :(

It is OH who wants Sky HD

In my experience, that's usually the case

We have it and although you can tell the difference, to me the difference isn't such that I'd want it if I didn't have it (I'm sure there could have been a simpler way to say that)...

OH is a maniac about his sound systems and his tv... if we don't have the latest technology, it nags at him until he gets it...

Strangely enough, he wants best picture quality, but it doesn't bother him when people on a tv screen are squashed (short and wider than should be) because of wrong size screen, which drives me mad, I'm for ever adjusting the size of the screen while he says 'but they look fine', when they are either squashed to death or pulled vertically...

It also struck me how HD seemed like a must have, when my digital cameras are treated differently... he offered to get me a really good one once, and I chose one I liked (10MB - was amazing at the time, quite common now), and his reply was 'why do you need 10MB, surely 5 will do?'... so why have HD when normal will do??

Sorry, getting carried away, this awoke an old rant of mine... I'll be quiet now on this 8)

HD looks good, but takes an awful lot of space on the sky recordings, and it depends whether you are keen on extra sharp details, or happy just to watch normal tv... and men somehow seem to think it's really good and indispensable (apologies to any man out there who doesn't share that generalised opinion)...

Hi Ziggy,

All of your post sounds familiar :) I must admit I am excited about the new TV a bit as it will be a big wall mounted one, but as there are not that many HD channels on Sky that we are ordering or that I will want to watch I'm not too excited about the money that its costing.

Then there are the cables to buy as well - we have been told that the quality of the picture is only as good as the quality of the HDMI cable and the top end ones are well expensive :shock: (The TV is coming from our joint savings) :? I have said he can have it all as long as he pays for the Sky HD set up and the monthly subscription. For all it is costing I could have got a cube and more hens :(

(Think he might leave me if I do that)

Hope it is better than our current set up or I won't be too chuffed!!

Hmm well. Hubby wanted Sky HD and I didn't, and in fact I resisted it for quite a long time, but now I think it's brilliant

The picture is loads better, and you get dolby surround sound too so films are awesome - Saving Private Ryan was like being there!

I was never a big telly watcher before, and still aren't now, but we actively seek out HD shows and think the BBC should buck up their ideas - if Channel 4 can broadcast everything in HD, surely the BBC can!

:shock::shock: ....you say that like its a good thing :lol::lol:

I must look into it,but we have decided that if we do go HD,then the multi room has to go, so its one or t'other

We have Sky HD with surround sound and big telly (Samsung Plasma). Not that impressed especially as it costs an extra £10 per month.

The choice of channels which Sky offer is currently 17.

2 of these channels are sky box office which costs extra.

The BBC channel only runs from 7.00pm until Midnight and generally only shows repeats.

Most of the other channels such as Sky1 or Channel 4 are showing programmes which were never made in "HD".(ie Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle).

At the time of posting this message (14.10pm) of the 17 channels, 3 are showing preveiws, and of the remaining 14 channels, 8 are showing programmes made in HD. 3 are sports channels and 5 are movie channels (all at extra cost).

The remaining 6 channels are showing "Non HD" produced programmes.

The HD picture on the sports channels is Fantastic!!!!

(though probably not worth the money every month).

If it's one or the other, "KEEP" the Multiroom, at least that gives more options (less rows) IMHO

Hmmmm, we are not ordering any of the movie channels nor sky sports so we will probably be even more limited. :? I did read something from Sky on a forum though saying they were increasing the HD offerings as and when with a new one coming out next week?

I am all for that option too Clash as the multi room is in the garage,so it gives me an excuse to send Hubby out there when ANTM is on 8)

Ziggy and Chuckov,

What tellys do you have just out of interest?

It's a Panasonic LCD flat screen one that we have hung on the wall and I think it's about 36". This was obviously pre-children (and chickens) when such things were affordable.

Ours is a Pioneer... also one of those huge flat things that hangs on the wall... we did joke about hanging it on the ceiling right above our bed, but decided it'd be scary sleeping under that considering the weight of it

Sorry, don't know much more about what model or size it is, that's really OH's area of expertise...

It's in and I think it's good :D There are not many HD channels on the package that we have from Sky but I think the novelty of the new TV (Sony KDL40V3000) and the Sky rates highly - no doubt I will soon be bored with it but I have to say it's blimming fabby :D:D:D
