Early Days and Converter Decision

Recommended Posts

Well the girls have just been let out for their third day (after their second night) and ....so far .... all is well. They seem to be getting on together well and there's no sign of bullying or jostling for position. They are all rather docile by temperament, although we think Krasi will be a bit of a motor-mouth (it's always her that's muttering). They are generally quiet, but we're sure that will change when they start laying

They are quite comical. When herring gulls go over they crane to look at them and seem to be on the alert at their cries above them. Similar with the odd plane noise.

Krasi tends to be the first into anything, followed by Kilo. Miso tends to follow, so maybe the pecking order's been sorted by some sort of 'chicken arrangement' :?::) Having said all that, Miso is quite capable when she wants something to get it. Last night she was scratching between Krasi's spaced feet for something in the grass... and Krasi didn't budge or react, but let her do it. :o

They are so lovely to watch :):D . We're sure their combs have grown, just in these few days. Bit like watcng a baby change so quickly in the early months.

Now we've got them we've decided to get the converter to give them more space, especially after seeing the great pics posted by Jules, which really helped (thanks again for posting them Jules). We will free-range them under supervision but they will spend the majority of time in the run. Going to order it today 8) .

Hi Fur 'n' Feathers,

I did the same as you. I ordered standard eglu & run with 4 chooks. After a week I ordered a converter and wished I had done it on the original order and saved the P+P.

It does make a big difference. My lot seem to live right at the end of the converter (not sure why, extra height, space???). I am glad I got it.
