Hevvur
My friend just got a baby rabbit off her neigbour. Her neighbour said it was male, but when I had a look, I'm sure it's female! he's 7 weeks old. Is it always obvious at 7 weeks what sex it is, as searching online it says it can be hard to tell when rabbits are young? Thanks!
twix
you can tell by then if you know what you're looking for. why do you think it's a girl?
victoriabunny
You can tell at 7 weeks - as twix said, providing you know what you're looking for! Don't forget, he won't have testicles yet - they don't come through until puberty, which usually kicks in at 12-14 weeks.
Hevvur
you can tell by then if you know what you're looking for. why do you think it's a girl? Because there isn't a 'tube' when I check, more of a slit (I'm awful at explaining things!)
twix
ok..There isn't anything very obvious with a young buck that age. you're right about tube vs slit but you may just see a round opening on a boy not an obvious tube. to see this you have to gently press a little bit above the area. maybe just look for " I "(female) vs " o "(male) rather than trying to find a tube if you dont know how so you are sure not to hurt him/her. Also look for bare skin on either side where the testes emerge. bucks tend to have chunkier faces too.. but not much use unless you have the rest of the litter to compare to

I read boys look like 'bullets', and girls are more of a slit. I have my own girl and boy (both are older though), and compared to those, it does look like the girl, but I read on a few websites that you can't always tell on rabbits so young
twix
yeah its tricky and you can't do it based on what adult bits look like. young bucks look quite like girls for a while.. the pictures are always rubbish and my description even worse. did your friend particularly want a buck or would it not matter? Hevvur
It didn't matter....but you know what kids and picking names are like lol
twix
aha! I see. well remember what it looked like, find out for sure in a few weeks/months time and remember for next time. it's the best way to get to know how to do it..
