free ranging!

Recommended Posts

Today i let my 6 hens out of the pen into the garden. they had been queing up at the door of the pen for the last few days so today i thought i would give them a bit of a run in the garden.

they seemed to absolutely love it. I had clipped their wings this afternoon as i didnt fancy chasing them through the neighbours gardens if they went over the fence!

our garden is quite big and they just didnt seem to know where to go first. they were running backwards and forwards. Mabel ran the full length trying to take off which was funny to see.

ive got to be a bit careful though as i dont think my 2 ebt's in the garden at the same time would be a good idea!

Yeah I wouldn't risk it with the dogs! Though having said that someone on her has a big bull bastiff that wanders around the garden with their chooks all quite happily. Depends on the dog really! They love free ranging and digging for worms etc.

That would be my dog and he joins them for foraging sessions!

I would gradually introduce your dog to the chooks.Keep it on a lead at first and allow it to get close enough for a sniff as that might be enough to satisfy first time curiosity. With regular introductions-you should have harmony.I was lucky though-mine took to them straight away and isnt any bother.
