Chuckov
Oh boy how eggcited was I!! I noticed yesterday that someone had been shuffling around in the nesting box and they don't normally go in there. Then today, Nutmeg was acting really oddly when we let them out after breakfast to free range - squawking really loudly, trying to roost on the barbeque (their usual roosting place if we don't physically put them back in the run in the evening!), so I put her back in the run. Twenty minutes later, she went into the Eglu, and stayed in there for 45 minutes....when she came back out again, she'd laid us a beautiful, small but perfect brown egg! I later weighed it at a respectable 43g. Here it is taking pride of place on my Skelter: I have just given it to my mum for her birthday as she's desperate to get an Eglu but my dad isn't having it! Very relieved, was starting to think we would NEVER get an egg! So proud of my little hen!

MaxBaz
Like you, beginning to wonder when I would find one in the nest box - all four girls arrived on 19th March - three of them have quite red combs/wattles (the fourth one doesn't even have any wattles yet) and on Saturday Edwina came up trumps! 50g - some time mid morning. On Sunday, nothing - so let them out in the run while I cleaned the eglu/cube. About 11.30 Edwina was absolutely shrieking at me - very very annoyed - so closed everything up, opened the door and she went flying up the steps as fast as she could. There were lots of noises and bits of straw were flying about - but 20 minutes later she casually walked down the steps and back into the run (she still had straw on her back) This one was 60g - can't wait for todays! That made me laugh love the way they throw the straw around ( wood shavings in our case ) Lottie actually managed to bury her egg this morning, she was so enthusiastic with the throwing

Chuckov
Thanks all, we've had an egg a day so far and they're slowly increasing in size, so it looks like Nutmeg is well away...Ginger is crouching properly now so I don't imagine she'll be far behind! However...I thought that I would love eggs from my own chickens, but actually, I look at them and can't even think of eating them! it must sound very strange, but it's true! I am so glad you said that Chuckov I thought I was a little crazy (well you know I know I am but even more than I thought I was )
