Dora
Hi I'm fairly new to keeping chucks and very new to sending messages ! Can some one shed some light on what might be the cause of one of my chickens (Ginger ) appearing to lose a few feathers from around her neck ? She and Biscuit arrived on the 20th July and started laying from the 15th August . I check them both regularly for mites and pests etc and both appear to be fine . Is she coming into a moult or do I need to take her to the vets for a check up do you think ?
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum, Dora . Sounds like it might be a moult - I assume you've not seen any pecking by Biscuit? Unless she seems unwell, I probably wouldn't bother with the vet. Mine haven't moulted yet so I'm no expert! Hopefully someone else will come along with some advice . Dora
Thanks for that She and Biscuit are best buddies - I've not seen any pecking so I'll just wait and watch !!
Egluntyne
What you describe is typical of a partial moult.
Pinkybijou
This happened to one of mine shortly after we got her. It only seemed to affect her neck and shortly after we noticed the bald bits she got brand new teeny quills growing in their place. I think there's such a thing as a neck moult but somebody else will know more about it than me!
