Guest
Poppet - one of the ex-batts is poorly. She laid under a bush for most of the day without moving and when she does move her wings are sort of hanging down. Her vent is clean but her knickers are mucky - I found a bit of a softie shell on there and they are glistening like they have egg white on. I also had a softie laid on Sunday but not sure who by. I'm guessing she's laid a softie that has broken on exit - is there anything else I should be looking for? She took herself off to the Eglu and is now sleeping alone in there whilst the others have tucked up in the cube - whenever I go to try and look at her she comes out and has a drink - but I've not seen her eat only drink. Any advice welcome as always.
lisa33
Sorry I don't have any advice, but just hope she gets better soon.
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh dear . Hope she perks up tomorrow.
Egluntyne
Poor girl. How about a bit of Limestone flour? They have such hard lives in the battery cage that it really takes it out of them. Maybe a top up of calcium is required.
Christian
Sorry to hear that Poppet is poorly. Good that she is drinking though. Is there anyway you can get hold of her and check if she still has part of the broken egg inside her still? Might be a job for the vet if she is no better tomorrow? Hope she is scratching in the sun by 8am!!
Guest
Thanks - she seems brighter this morning and was with the others when I went down to the run. Came round the shed together at a good speed.

Guest
But now she is mumping in the bushes again - won't let us pick her up. Also Mum just told me she laid a good egg this morning. Her poos look a bit runny and greenish but then she didn't really eat yesterday only drink. I'm not really keen on taking her to the vet - she doesn't seem that off coloru just "mumpy", no more egg looking stuff on her bottom. Do you guys think I should try and discourage her from laying and see if that does the trick?
Egluntyne
How about worming her?
Cinnamon
Or adding some Avipro to her water, which is good for tummy upsets?
Guest
Thanks - she's still not right and her poos are still runny and greenish. We've ordered some flubenvet but I'm still convinced this started with a soft egg. She is keeping with the others although slow and "mumpy" looking - she is still sleeping in the Eglu but one of the other batty girls slept in there with her last night. We keep coming home expecting to find her dead but we feel that if she dies as least she had a couple of happy months outside of the battery farm.
