Need to give silkie a bath, any advice?

Recommended Posts

Pootle is *absolutely* filthy, after deciding a rainy day would be a good time to wallow in a mudbath.

She's cleaned herself up remarkably well considering, but really could do with a bath.

We're thinking taking a tub of warm water out in the garden would be the least stressful for her, but are unsure if we can use soap/washing up liquid/shampoo, as silkies have a mixture of both hair and feathers.

Any advice appreciated!

we do our girls about once a month as we have one girl who has sterile peronitis and is prone to a dirty bum and the other 2 have feathered feet.

We get warm shallow tubtrug full of warm water with a dash of ecover washing up liquid or johnsons baby shampoo. We also have another container of plain warm water to rinse with (with no shampoo in), Chooks go in the first tubtrug, and washed we use a sponge aswell....they quite enjoy it. They then go into the "clean" water for a rinse and then wrapped in a towel and towel dried.

We then pop them in the garage (we call it the salon! ) and they stand on top our tumble dryer and we dry them on a cool/warm setting with the hair dryer - they love the hairdryer and make no attempt to move.

They all come up beautifully and the feathers are unbelievably fluffy afterwards.

I would say it was a 2 person job though - especially the washing bit.

Can I come and watch next time they have a blue rinse?
